Uttarakhand is set to empower single women by providing them opportunities for self-employment under the new Single Women Self-Employment Scheme, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on 10th February from Dehradun. The Women Self-Employment scheme aims to make women financially independent by offering subsidies of up to 75% on project costs.
Initially, the scheme targeted around 2,000 women across the state, and so far, 484 women have been selected through applications received from different districts. These include 42 women from Bageshwar, 191 from Dehradun, 75 from Nainital, 66 from Pauri Garhwal, 23 from Tehri Garhwal, and 87 from Udham Singh Nagar.

Who Can Apply
The Women Self-Employment scheme is specifically designed for unmarried, divorced, destitute, widowed, abandoned, transgender, acid attack survivors, and women affected by crime. Eligible applicants must be between 21 and 50 years of age and have an annual income not exceeding ₹72,000.
Financial Assistance & Benefits
Under this initiative, women will receive 50-75% financial aid to start their own businesses, with beneficiaries required to contribute only 25% of the total cost. The maximum grant a beneficiary can receive is up to ₹1.5 lakh.
Areas for Self-Employment
Beneficiaries can establish businesses in various sectors, including tailoring, beauty parlors, bakeries, and retail shops. Selection has been made based on district-level applications, and the government plans to expand the scheme to more women in the coming months.
During the inauguration on 10th February, a small group of women, five from each district, will be invited to mark the launch of this pioneering initiative. According to Banshi Lal Rana, Director of Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, this is the first scheme of its kind that places single women at the center, ensuring their path toward financial independence and self-reliance.
CM Dhami emphasized that empowering single women through self-employment will not only uplift individual lives but also contribute to the overall economic growth and social development of Uttarakhand.
This program aligns with the government’s broader vision of women’s empowerment, giving single women the tools and support to become financially independent and socially confident.
