Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath signs a green hydrogen MoU with Yamanashi, Japan, boosting Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy goals and investment potential.
In a landmark move to strengthen clean energy and investment prospects, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath successfully signed a green hydrogen Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture. The agreement was formalized during the ‘UP Investment Road Show’ in Yamanashi, highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s potential as a global investment destination.
The MoU aims to introduce green hydrogen technology across key sectors in Uttar Pradesh, including industry, public transport, and energy. As part of the partnership, students from higher technical institutions in the state will receive advanced training in Japan, equipping the next generation of professionals with cutting-edge clean energy skills.
Driving India’s ‘Net Zero’ Ambitions
CM Yogi described the collaboration as a major milestone in advancing India’s clean energy targets. “This initiative will accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Net Zero’ goal while fostering sustainable industrial growth,” he said. The partnership underscores the state government’s commitment to combining technological innovation with skill development for long-term economic benefits.
Green Hydrogen and Skill Development
Emphasizing the dual benefits of technology and talent, CM Yogi highlighted that the MoU will enable Indian students to gain international expertise, creating a skilled workforce capable of implementing green hydrogen solutions across the state. This move is expected to enhance Uttar Pradesh’s competitiveness in clean energy sectors and foster innovation in emerging technologies.

During his visit, CM Yogi also stressed the importance of robotics and advanced technologies. The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated budgets to establish a Centre of Excellence in Robotics, aiming to strengthen industrial automation and technological self-reliance. Collaboration with Yamanashi is expected to accelerate innovation and support the state’s industrial growth trajectory.
Proactive Governance to Attract Investment
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s proactive governance model, CM Yogi assured global investors of the state’s business-friendly environment. “Our administration is focused on attracting investment, promoting industrial development, and expanding global partnerships,” he said. With a population of nearly 25 crore and rapid economic growth, Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a hub for industrial expansion and innovation.
Strengthening India-Japan Relations
The MoU reflects the deepening ties between India and Japan. CM Yogi expressed gratitude to Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki and his team for supporting investment dialogue. The agreement builds on the Governor’s visit to Uttar Pradesh in December 2024 and sets the stage for future Government-to-Government (G2G) and Government-to-Business (G2B) collaborations.
Senior dignitaries present included Yamanashi Vice Governor Junichi Ishidera, UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, India’s Ambassador to Japan Nagma Malik, and several industry leaders, emphasizing the strategic importance of this partnership.
