Arvind Kejriwal pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary, calling him the foundation of a strong India.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal paid tribute, remembering Nehru as the leader who laid the foundation of a strong and independent India.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal expressed his respect and said that Nehru played a key role in building the framework of modern India. He wrote, “On the death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji, the country’s first Prime Minister who laid the foundation of a strong India, I offer my humble tribute.”
The tribute comes as the nation remembers Nehru, who passed away on May 27, 1964, marking the end of an era in Indian politics.

Early Life and Political Journey of Jawaharlal Nehru
Born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Nehru emerged as one of the most prominent leaders of India’s freedom struggle. His political journey began under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi, whom he first met in 1916.
He played an active role in key movements including the Non-Cooperation Movement and was jailed multiple times during the struggle against British rule. His early activism included organizing farmer-led initiatives in Uttar Pradesh and participating in major national protests between 1920 and 1922.
By the mid-1920s, Nehru had become a central figure in the Indian National Congress. In 1923, he served as General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and later undertook international visits across Europe, including the Soviet Union, where he observed global political developments firsthand.

Rise in the Freedom Movement
Nehru’s influence in the Congress grew steadily. He was elected Congress President multiple times between 1936 and 1954, strengthening his position as a leading voice in India’s independence movement.
After India’s independence in 1947, Nehru became the country’s first Prime Minister and remained in office until his death in 1964. His tenure is widely recognized for laying down the foundation of democratic institutions, foreign policy frameworks, and planned economic development in India.
He also played a significant role in defending members of the Indian National Army (INA) after World War II and remained actively involved in shaping post-independence governance.
Legacy Remembered
Jawaharlal Nehru’s leadership is often associated with nation-building, scientific temper, and institutional development. On his death anniversary, political leaders across parties continue to acknowledge his contribution to India’s democratic and administrative foundations.
