Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that the recent power shortage in the state is primarily due to sudden weather changes and rising electricity demand, not administrative failure. He also urged citizens to remain alert against misinformation and support the government by using electricity judiciously.
Weather conditions and technical issues affect power supply
Addressing a public event, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath explained that extreme heat conditions led to unexpected shutdowns in several thermal power plants, which in turn impacted electricity generation across the state. He noted that rising temperatures have significantly increased power consumption, putting additional pressure on the supply system.
He further highlighted that peak-hour electricity supply has grown significantly compared to 2017 levels. At that time, the state supplied around 15–16 thousand megawatts, whereas now it has increased to nearly 32–33 thousand megawatts.
Gap between demand and production continues
According to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, electricity production capacity in Uttar Pradesh has improved over the years, but demand has grown at an even faster rate. He stated that total generation capacity, including renewable energy, has reached around 13 thousand megawatts, while demand stands at approximately 33–35 thousand megawatts, creating a temporary imbalance.
Attack on opposition over misinformation
CM Yogi Adityanath criticized opposition parties, claiming that those who are now spreading rumours about a power crisis were responsible for severe electricity shortages during their own rule. He remarked that earlier there were frequent power outages, and people even had to dry clothes on electric wires due to unreliable supply.

Global energy crisis impact
He also pointed out that the energy crisis is not limited to India but is a global issue. Fuel prices have surged worldwide, including in countries like the United States, where petroleum prices have more than doubled. He emphasized that global supply chain disruptions have also affected India.
However, he credited the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for managing inflation and maintaining relative stability in the country.
Public appeal for energy conservation
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged citizens to contribute to energy conservation and use electricity responsibly. He advised people to:
- Use electricity only as needed
- Switch off unnecessary lights and appliances
- Avoid wastage of street lighting
- Support energy-saving practices in daily life
He emphasized that collective public cooperation is essential to manage the temporary power stress effectively.
Development initiatives also highlighted
During the event held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 342 development projects worth approximately ₹413 crore. City development and finance officials also presented updates on ongoing urban development initiatives.
