A Bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe emphasized that accountability must be clearly defined to prevent such incidents from recurring, stressing that systemic reforms are essential to restore trust in the examination process.
Supreme Court Flags Accountability Gap
During the hearing related to the NEET Paper Leak 2026, the Supreme Court observed that exam-related failures continue due to a lack of clear responsibility among officials involved in the process.
The Bench stated that unless individual accountability is fixed, systemic issues will persist, calling the current structure of examination governance “diffused and unclear.”
Traumatic Impact on Students
The Court further noted that the NEET Paper Leak 2026 has caused significant distress among students and their families, stressing that the nation must ensure fairness and transparency in competitive examinations.

Centre Says PM Modi Monitoring Situation
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring developments related to the NEET Paper Leak 2026.
The Centre assured the Court that the government is actively working to address concerns and improve the examination system.
Court Pushes for NTA Reform
The Supreme Court directed the Ministry of Human Resource Development to submit a detailed affidavit outlining reforms to the NTA, including strengthening institutional capacity and involving domain experts.
The Bench noted that the objective is to ensure that incidents like the NEET Paper Leak 2026 do not recur in future examinations.
Demands for Structural Changes
Multiple petitions have been filed seeking restructuring of the NTA, including proposals for Computer-Based Testing (CBT), digital security mechanisms, and judicial oversight.
Petitioners argued that the recurring issues highlighted by the NEET Paper Leak 2026 expose systemic weaknesses that require urgent reform.
