AAP criticizes Gujarat government after Surat hit-and-run accident, raising concerns over rising drug abuse, drunk driving, and law and order situation.
Surat: A major road accident in the Sarathana area of Surat has triggered a political controversy in Gujarat after a man allegedly drove under the influence and caused a serious hit-and-run incident, leaving multiple people injured.
According to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat spokesperson Yogesh Jadvani, the incident has once again highlighted the growing problem of substance abuse and weak law enforcement in the state.
Several injured in accident
The accident reportedly occurred when a young man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into people in a crowded area. Around 15 individuals sustained injuries, including five who are reported to be seriously hurt.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over road safety and enforcement of traffic and narcotics laws in urban Gujarat.

AAP targets Gujarat government over rising drug issues
Reacting to the incident, Yogesh Jadvani alleged that drug and alcohol abuse has increased significantly in major cities such as Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Rajkot. He claimed that narcotics such as ganja, hashish, and other illegal substances are easily accessible in several areas.
He further alleged that the state administration has failed to control the growing drug network, which is contributing to an increase in road accidents and other crimes.
Allegations over policing priorities
The AAP spokesperson also criticized the police system, alleging that law enforcement focuses more on political surveillance during elections rather than curbing illegal liquor and drug networks.
He claimed that bootlegging and drug trafficking operations are openly functioning despite Gujarat’s alcohol prohibition laws.
Concerns over public safety
Jadvani stated that repeated incidents of drunk driving and drug-related crimes are putting public safety at risk. He emphasized that every citizen stepping out of their home deserves assurance of safe return, which he claimed is currently lacking.
Call for strict government action
AAP has urged the Gujarat government to take immediate and strict action against drug networks and illegal alcohol trade. The party also demanded stronger enforcement measures to prevent such accidents and improve law and order in the state.
