Punjab has taken a significant step in the education sector by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a compulsory subject for students from Class 1 to Class 12. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced the initiative, highlighting the state government’s focus on modernising school education and preparing students for future challenges.
The move aims to familiarise students with emerging technologies at an early stage and develop skills that will help them compete at national and global levels.
Harjot Singh Bains Highlights Global Focus on AI Education
While addressing the initiative, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that countries like China and South Korea have prioritised AI learning in their school systems, and Punjab is also moving towards a similar technology-driven education model.
He stated that Punjab is working to bring its education system to a level where students can gain exposure to advanced learning methods from their early school years.
According to Bains, the state that was once known for challenges among its youth is now witnessing students achieving success in competitive examinations like NEET.
₹2500 Crore Investment for Education Transformation
The Punjab government has invested more than ₹2500 crore for strengthening education infrastructure and implementing new initiatives, including AI-based learning.
The initiative is aimed at improving digital literacy, enhancing learning opportunities and creating a technology-friendly environment in government schools across the state.
