AAP MLA Hemant Khava leads Lalpur farmers’ protest demanding Sauni Yojana water supply and subsidised fodder amid Jamnagar’s monsoon crisis.
Farmers and cattle rearers in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district staged a massive protest rally and symbolic hunger strike in Lalpur under the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Hemant Khava. The protest was organised over demands related to irrigation water from the Sauni Yojana and availability of fodder at affordable rates.
The demonstration was led by the Kisan Hit Rakshak Samiti, where a large number of farmers, cattle owners, village representatives and AAP workers gathered to raise concerns over the impact of delayed and insufficient monsoon rainfall on agriculture and livestock.
The protesters assembled at Lalpur Taluka Panchayat in the morning and later marched towards the Prant Office. A symbolic hunger strike was observed from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM, after which a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister was submitted to the Prant Officer.
Farmers Demand Immediate Release of Irrigation Water
During the protest, farmers highlighted that despite the Sauni Yojana pipelines passing through Lalpur and Jamjodhpur talukas, several areas are still facing a shortage of irrigation water.
AAP MLA Hemant Khava demanded the immediate release of water to protect standing crops and support farmers who are struggling due to delayed rainfall.
He said that farmers need urgent irrigation support to complete remaining sowing activities and prevent further damage to crops.

Fodder Crisis Raises Concerns Among Cattle Rearers
Addressing the gathering, Hemant Khava raised concerns over the difficulties faced by cattle rearers due to inadequate rainfall.
He alleged that while livestock owners are struggling to arrange fodder, large quantities of fodder stored in government warehouses are not being distributed effectively.
Khava demanded that the government immediately start free or subsidised fodder distribution centres for cattle rearers to help protect livestock during the difficult period.
Demand for Expansion of Sauni Yojana Coverage
The protesters also raised concerns that even after several years of the announcement of the Sauni Yojana, many parts of Saurashtra are still waiting for adequate water supply.
The farmers demanded a technical survey and installation of additional valves to ensure that irrigation water reaches remote villages and benefits more farming communities.
‘Movement Will Intensify If Demands Are Ignored’: Hemant Khava
Hemant Khava stated that the protest is not about political interests but about the future of farmers, cattle rearers and upcoming generations.
He warned that if the government fails to take immediate steps on the demands of farmers, a larger and more intense movement could be launched across the region.
The protesters urged the administration to take quick action on irrigation facilities, fodder availability and implementation of water schemes to provide relief to affected communities.
