AAP Gujarat chief Isudan Gadhvi opposes the E20 fuel policy and urges the Centre to make ethanol blending optional or reduce petrol prices.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its opposition to the Centre’s E20 petrol policy, with Gujarat State President Isudan Gadhvi announcing a nationwide campaign led by Arvind Kejriwal. The party has scheduled a National Town Hall in New Delhi on August 1 to raise concerns over ethanol-blended fuel and seek public participation.

Addressing the media in Ahmedabad, Gadhvi alleged that the policy has been implemented without giving citizens adequate choice and demanded that the government either make E20 fuel optional or reduce petrol prices.

Concerns Over Vehicle Engines and Fuel Costs

Gadhvi claimed that petrol containing 20% ethanol and 80% conventional fuel could affect both older and newer vehicles. He alleged that prolonged use of E20 fuel may reduce engine life and increase maintenance costs, particularly for middle-class vehicle owners.

He further argued that if the government intended to introduce E20 nationwide, it should have provided a longer transition period to allow consumers and vehicle owners to adapt.

Questions Over Petrol Prices

The AAP leader also questioned why petrol prices have not been reduced despite the introduction of ethanol blending, which has been promoted as a measure to reduce oil imports, support farmers and lower emissions.

According to Gadhvi, consumers have not experienced any direct financial benefit, even as they are being encouraged to use ethanol-blended fuel.

National Town Hall on August 1

As part of its campaign, AAP will organise a National Town Hall on August 1 at 12 PM at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. The event will allow participants to join both offline and online, enabling people from across the country to share their views on the E20 policy.

Gadhvi appealed to citizens, especially those in Gujarat, to participate in the discussion through the online platform and express their opinions on fuel pricing and ethanol blending.

AAP’s Demand to the Centre

The party has urged the Central Government to either:

Make E20 fuel optional for the next several years, allowing consumers to choose conventional petrol.
Reduce petrol prices if ethanol blending continues to be implemented nationwide.

The issue is expected to remain a topic of political and public debate as the National Town Hall approaches, with discussions likely to focus on fuel affordability, vehicle compatibility and the long-term impact of the E20 policy.
