AAP Gujarat spokesperson Yogesh Jadavani alleges poor highways despite ₹24,814 crore toll collection and questions NHAI’s toll policy.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of collecting massive toll revenue from Gujarat while failing to maintain national highways. Addressing a press conference, Gujarat AAP spokesperson Yogesh Jadavani alleged that commuters are paying higher toll charges despite facing damaged roads, diversions and incomplete highway projects.
According to Jadavani, the number of toll plazas in Gujarat has increased significantly over the past five years, raising concerns about the growing financial burden on road users.
Claims of Massive Toll Revenue and Poor Road Quality
Jadavani claimed that NHAI has collected ₹24,814 crore from Gujarat through toll charges. However, he alleged that several national highways continue to remain in poor condition, with potholes, unfinished stretches and multiple diversions creating inconvenience and safety risks for commuters.
He said that during the ongoing monsoon season, deteriorating road conditions have increased the possibility of accidents and vehicle damage.

Questions Toll Collection on Incomplete Roads
The AAP leader questioned why toll fees are being collected from motorists even at locations where road construction or repair work is still underway.
He argued that commuters should not be required to pay toll charges unless highways are fully completed and maintained according to expected standards. According to him, charging tolls on partially constructed roads places an unfair burden on the public.
Political Criticism of the Central Government
Jadavani also criticised the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that promises of fair treatment for Gujarat have not translated into better road infrastructure.
He claimed that despite the increase in toll plazas—from 38 to 66 over the past five years—road quality has not improved proportionately. He further alleged that motorists continue to face damaged vehicles, punctured tyres and unsafe driving conditions while paying substantial toll fees.
AAP Demands Better Infrastructure Before Toll Collection
The AAP has demanded that the Central Government and NHAI improve highway infrastructure before collecting toll charges from commuters.
The party has also called for greater transparency in the use of toll revenue and urged authorities to prioritise road safety, timely completion of highway projects and better maintenance of national highways across Gujarat.
