Isudan Gadhvi criticised the Gujarat government over drought concerns and urged immediate relief, water and fodder support for affected farmers.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat State President Isudan Gadhvi has expressed strong displeasure over statements made by a state government minister regarding the possibility of declaring drought in drought-hit parts of Gujarat. He said the government’s approach has added to the anxiety among farmers, livestock owners, agricultural labourers and sharecroppers.
In a video statement, Isudan Gadhvi said farmers across several parts of Gujarat are facing serious difficulties because of inadequate rainfall. He particularly highlighted areas such as Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar, where agricultural conditions have reportedly deteriorated significantly.
Isudan Gadhvi Questions Government’s September 30 Drought Assessment
Reacting to the minister’s statement that a rainfall and crop assessment would be conducted after the monsoon ends on September 30 before considering drought, Isudan Gadhvi termed the approach unacceptable.
He said that farmers cannot be expected to wait until the end of September when their crops are already suffering from insufficient rainfall. According to him, groundnut crops in several villages have already dried up, and even additional rainfall at this stage may not be enough to revive damaged crops.
Isudan Gadhvi also referred to the state government’s drought-related norms from 2016, claiming that four consecutive weeks without adequate rainfall can be considered a basis for declaring drought conditions. He questioned why the government was not taking immediate steps despite the situation faced by farmers.
AAP Leader Demands Immediate Government Intervention
The AAP Gujarat chief accused the BJP government of being more willing to provide financial relief to industrialists while allegedly failing to adequately support farmers and livestock owners during difficult times.
He also criticised BJP MLAs and MPs, alleging that they have failed to put sufficient pressure on the state government to address the concerns of farmers.
Isudan Gadhvi demanded that Chief Minister personally visit affected regions along with district officials to understand the ground situation. He specifically mentioned areas such as Dwarka, Porbandar and Jamnagar and called for an on-ground assessment of crop losses and water shortages.

Demand for Drought Declaration and Farmer Relief
The AAP leader said immediate financial assistance should be transferred to affected farmers’ accounts and drought should be declared without further delay.
He also highlighted shortages of drinking water, irrigation facilities and fodder in affected areas. According to Isudan Gadhvi, providing only limited quantities of fodder is not enough to address the needs of livestock owners.
He called for proper fodder arrangements and demanded an increase in the number of working days available under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to provide additional support to rural households.
Isudan Gadhvi Urges Minister to Review Statement
Isudan Gadhvi said the government minister should reconsider the earlier statement and issue a fresh clarification to reassure farmers who are currently facing uncertainty.
He reiterated that the government should assess the situation on the ground, provide immediate financial and agricultural assistance, ensure adequate water and fodder supplies, and declare drought-affected areas at the earliest.
