Haryana has emerged among the top six performing states in the country for HIV control, registering significant progress towards the national 95-95-95 targets. The state has improved its performance in HIV diagnosis, treatment and viral suppression, strengthening its efforts to curb the spread of the virus and expand access to care.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra, highlighted the latest progress and said Haryana has made considerable gains since January 2026.
Haryana records sharp improvement in first two 95 targets
The latest figures show substantial progress under Haryana HIV Control initiatives. In January 2026, the state had achieved 85.2% under the first 95 target. This has now increased to 93.2%.
The second target has also witnessed strong growth. Haryana’s achievement, which stood at 83.7% in January, has now reached 90.9%.
The improvement reflects the state’s continued efforts to identify people living with HIV and connect those diagnosed with appropriate treatment and healthcare services.
Viral suppression target already crossed
A key achievement in Haryana HIV Control is the state’s performance on the third 95 target. Haryana has recorded 95.8% viral suppression, meaning it has already crossed the national benchmark for this indicator.
Viral suppression refers to bringing the amount of HIV in a person’s blood to a very low level through effective treatment. It is an important indicator of the effectiveness of HIV treatment and long-term disease management.

Five districts achieve ‘Safe’ status
Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Bhiwani, Panchkula and Yamunanagar have achieved the full ‘Safe’ target status in key areas covering HIV diagnosis, treatment and viral suppression.
The performance of these five districts highlights the progress being made at the local level through testing, treatment and continued monitoring. Their results are also expected to contribute to Haryana’s efforts to achieve the remaining national targets.
Statewide awareness campaign from September 15
As part of Haryana HIV Control efforts, the state is preparing to launch a major awareness campaign focusing on young people and vulnerable communities.
A folk media campaign will begin across all districts from September 15. The initiative will use community-oriented communication to spread awareness about HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
The campaign is also aimed at addressing misconceptions surrounding HIV and encouraging people to seek timely testing and medical support.
Youth and vulnerable communities to remain the focus
The upcoming campaign will give special attention to young people and vulnerable sections of society. Through wider awareness activities, the health department aims to ensure that accurate information about HIV reaches communities across Haryana.
