Referring to Maharashtra’s decision to declare drought conditions in several talukas, he asked why a similar assessment and decision had not been announced for affected parts of Gujarat.

Manoj Sorathiya Cites Maharashtra Drought Decision

Manoj Sorathiya said Maharashtra had declared drought conditions in more than 200 talukas despite rainfall deficiency of around 18 percent, according to his statement. He argued that the Maharashtra decision had raised expectations among farmers in Gujarat, particularly in several parts of Saurashtra.

Sorathiya said farmers in drought-affected areas of Gujarat had been waiting for government surveys and clarity on possible relief measures after the monsoon.

Questions Over Gujarat’s Drought Assessment

According to Manoj Sorathiya, farmers expected an announcement when the Gujarat Chief Minister held a press conference, particularly because rainfall shortages had affected several areas.

He questioned why the Gujarat government had not yet taken a decision on declaring drought-affected areas and urged authorities to complete the assessment process so that eligible farmers could receive assistance.

AAP Says It Has Raised the Issue Repeatedly

Manoj Sorathiya said the Aam Aadmi Party had repeatedly raised the issue of rainfall shortages and farmers’ difficulties before the state government. He claimed that the party had organised protests and satyagrahas and had also collected forms from farmers in villages to highlight their concerns.

The AAP leader said the party would continue to raise the matter until farmers in affected areas receive clarity about government assistance.

Gandhinagar Protest Planned

According to Manoj Sorathiya, the AAP plans to visit Gandhinagar on the upcoming 2nd to once again raise the drought issue before the Chief Minister.

He said the party would demand that areas facing drought-like conditions be assessed under the applicable government norms and that eligible farmers receive the support available under relief provisions.

Focus on Farmers’ Relief

The demand comes as farmers in parts of Gujarat continue to seek clarity on the government’s assessment of rainfall shortages and the possible declaration of drought-affected areas.

Manoj Sorathiya has urged the Gujarat government to assess the affected regions and take appropriate decisions so that relief measures can begin where the prescribed criteria are met.
