AAP Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi urges the government to declare drought in rain-deficient areas and provide immediate relief to farmers and workers.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi has appealed to the state government to immediately announce a Gujarat Drought Declaration in areas facing severe rainfall shortages. Gadhvi urged Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to provide financial assistance to affected farmers, arrange adequate fodder and start immediate relief work for agricultural workers and sharecroppers.

According to Gadhvi, areas including Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, North Gujarat and Kutch are facing serious agricultural difficulties because of inadequate rainfall. He claimed that farmers in several villages are struggling with crop losses and are looking towards the government for assistance.

Gadhvi Raises Concern Over Groundnut Crop

Gadhvi said the impact of rainfall deficiency is particularly visible in groundnut-growing areas. According to his claim, several groundnut plants have already dried up and additional rainfall may not be enough to recover some of the damaged crops.

The AAP leader said the government should move ahead with a Gujarat Drought Declaration and provide financial support to farmers along with sufficient fodder for livestock. He also called for immediate employment and relief measures for sharecroppers, farm labourers and other workers dependent on agriculture.

AAP has previously organised protests and campaigns over the drought issue in Gujarat, including an indefinite agitation led by Gadhvi in Devbhumi Dwarka.

Questions Government Over Maharashtra Example

Gadhvi also referred to Maharashtra while questioning the Gujarat government’s approach to drought relief. He asked why similar assistance should not be considered for farmers in Gujarat’s rain-deficient regions.

He claimed that AAP workers had visited villages and collected applications from affected people seeking government assistance. Gadhvi said farmers and rural communities were expecting immediate relief from the administration.

Demand for Fodder and Relief Work

The AAP state president said a Gujarat Drought Declaration should be accompanied by a comprehensive relief package for farmers and livestock owners.

He demanded adequate fodder arrangements and access to water for affected agricultural areas. He also called for immediate relief and employment-related measures for sharecroppers and farm labourers whose incomes depend on agricultural activity.

Gadhvi further urged BJP MLAs and MPs from affected areas to raise farmers’ concerns with the state government.

Gujarat Government Says Scientific Assessment Is Required

The Gujarat government’s position differs from the immediate drought declaration demanded by AAP. The government has said that rainfall deficiency alone is not sufficient to officially classify an area as drought-affected. The assessment is carried out using parameters prescribed under the Centre’s Drought Management Manual, including rainfall, crop conditions and other agricultural and water-related indicators.

According to government figures cited during the Gujarat Assembly proceedings, the state had received 75.43% of its average seasonal rainfall as of September 3. Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar and Kutch recorded particularly low rainfall levels. The government has also reported measures involving fodder, water and agricultural electricity in affected areas.

Political Pressure Over Drought Relief Continues

The demand for a Gujarat Drought Declaration has become an important political issue amid uneven rainfall across the state. AAP has repeatedly raised concerns over crop damage and the availability of water and fodder in parts of Saurashtra, Kutch and North Gujarat.

Gadhvi said that if the government does not take immediate action, AAP will intensify its campaign and launch further phases of its movement.

For now, the Gujarat Drought Declaration remains linked to the state’s assessment process, while opposition parties continue to demand faster relief for farmers in rain-deficient regions. The Gujarat government has maintained that the final decision should follow the prescribed scientific assessment and ground-level evaluation.
