West Indies add Amir Jangoo to their T20I squad as cover for injured Jewel Andrew ahead of the five-match series against India.
West Indies have made a late addition to their T20I squad ahead of the five-match series against India. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has brought in Amir Jangoo as cover for wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew, who is currently being assessed after suffering a finger injury during the third ODI against India.
The five-match T20I series is scheduled to begin on October 6, with the opening game set to take place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The move to include Amir Jangoo comes as a precautionary measure while the medical team continues to monitor Andrew’s condition.
Jewel Andrew Suffers Finger Injury in Third ODI
Jewel Andrew picked up the injury while fielding during the third ODI against India. The 19-year-old was involved in taking a catch to dismiss Naman Dhir when he hurt his finger. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for scans.
The good news for West Indies is that the scans did not show any fracture. However, Andrew has not yet been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series and remains under medical observation.
Andrew was part of the West Indies squad for the opening ODI and was dismissed for a duck. He missed the second match before returning to the playing XI for the third and final ODI.

Amir Jangoo Added as Cover
With Andrew’s availability still uncertain, CWI has opted to strengthen its squad by adding Amir Jangoo as cover. His inclusion gives the Caribbean side another batting option ahead of the important T20I series.
The addition of Amir Jangoo could prove useful if Andrew is unable to recover in time for the opening match. The West Indies management will likely wait for further medical updates before making a final decision on Andrew’s participation.
India vs West Indies T20I Series Begins October 6
India and West Indies will now shift their attention to the shortest format after completing their three-match ODI series. India won the ODI series 2-1 after securing victories in the first two matches.
The first T20I will be played in Lucknow on October 6. The remaining four matches are scheduled for October 9, 11, 14 and 17.
For West Indies, the series provides an opportunity to bounce back after losing the ODI series. The team will be hoping to put together a stronger performance against a confident Indian side.
Shreyas Iyer to Lead India
India will enter the T20I series under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The Indian team will be keen to carry its momentum from the ODI leg into the five-match T20I contest.
Meanwhile, the West Indies will be looking to make the most of their home-style Caribbean conditions and challenge the Men in Blue. With Jewel Andrew’s fitness still being monitored, the inclusion of Amir Jangoo provides the visitors with additional cover before the series gets underway.
The opening T20I in Lucknow is expected to set the tone for what could be an entertaining five-match battle between India and West Indies.
