Haryana has established 141 Safe Cradle Centres to protect newborns and provide a safe alternative to child abandonment across the state.
Haryana Safe Cradle Centres: The Haryana Government has established 141 Safe Cradle Centres across the state to protect newborn babies and children who may be at risk due to difficult family circumstances. The initiative has been introduced by the Women and Child Development Department under the vision of “Empowered Women – Safe Childhood – Prosperous Haryana.”
The government has appealed to citizens to ensure that no child is abandoned in an unsafe location. Parents or individuals who are unable to care for a child for any reason have been urged to hand over the child safely to a designated cradle centre rather than leaving them on roads, in bushes, near dustbins or at other dangerous places.
141 Safe Cradle Centres Established Across Haryana
The state government has set up 141 centres at designated locations to provide a safe handover option for newborns and children in vulnerable circumstances.
According to a government spokesperson, these facilities are located at child care institutions, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), civil hospitals and other designated establishments across Haryana.
The Haryana Safe Cradle Centres initiative aims to help protect children from abandonment and ensure that they can be brought into the appropriate child protection system.

The government has stressed that leaving a newborn in an isolated or unsafe place can put the child’s life at serious risk. People facing circumstances in which they cannot provide care have therefore been encouraged to use the designated facilities.
Child Welfare Committees Provide an Alternative
The government has also clarified that people can approach the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) constituted in each district if a Safe Cradle Centre is not available in their area.
This alternative is intended to ensure that geographical limitations do not prevent someone from safely handing over a child who needs care and protection.
Through the Haryana Safe Cradle Centres initiative and district-level Child Welfare Committees, the state has outlined designated channels for bringing vulnerable children to the attention of the relevant authorities.
Residents are encouraged to contact the appropriate local authorities or Child Welfare Committee for guidance on safely handing over a child.
Identity of Person Handing Over a Child to Remain Confidential
A key assurance provided by the government is that the identity of anyone coming forward to hand over a child safely will be kept strictly confidential.
According to the official statement, this provision is intended to encourage people to seek help without fear or hesitation when they are unable to care for a newborn or child.
The Haryana Safe Cradle Centres have been established to provide a safer alternative to abandonment and help ensure that children in vulnerable situations can receive appropriate care through the designated system.
Government Appeals to Citizens to Protect Every Child
The Women and Child Development Department has called on the public to support efforts to prevent child abandonment. Citizens have been urged not to leave newborns or children on roads, under trees, in bushes, near dustbins, outside hospitals or in other unsafe locations.
Instead, individuals who cannot care for a child should use a designated Safe Cradle Centre or approach the district Child Welfare Committee.
The establishment of 141 Haryana Safe Cradle Centres reflects the state’s stated commitment to child protection and welfare. The government has appealed to communities to remain alert to the safety of vulnerable children and help ensure that every child has the opportunity for a secure future.
The initiative is part of the broader commitment to “Empowered Women – Safe Childhood – Prosperous Haryana,” with the aim of ensuring that no newborn or child is left in an abandoned or dangerous situation.
