Court Expresses Displeasure Over Nora Fatehi’s Absence
During Monday’s hearing, Nora Fatehi’s lawyer requested an exemption from her personal appearance. However, the court was unhappy with the situation and questioned the actress’s absence despite being directed to appear as a witness.
The court reportedly remarked that Nora was expected to be present and that her conduct was not up to the mark. It also cautioned that the court’s directions should not be taken for granted.
The hearing was subsequently adjourned, with November 6 fixed as the next date for proceedings.
Delhi Police Says Notice Was Sent to Nora on October 22
During the proceedings, Delhi Police informed the court that it had not received confirmation regarding Nora’s appearance. According to the police, a notice was sent to the actress on October 22 through email and WhatsApp.
Officials also tried contacting her over the phone but reportedly did not receive a response.
The court had directed Nora to appear on November 2 during the previous hearing. She was required to record her testimony as a prosecution witness in the ongoing extortion case.
The Nora Fatehi Sukesh Chandrashekhar case has drawn attention because of the actress’s earlier questioning by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) over her alleged links with the accused.
What Is the ₹200 Crore Extortion Case Against Sukesh Chandrashekhar?
The case involves allegations that Sukesh Chandrashekhar operated an extortion racket from Delhi’s Rohini Jail between 2020 and 2021. Investigators alleged that he impersonated senior government officials and extorted approximately ₹200 crore from Aditi Singh, the wife of former Ranbaxy promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh.
According to the allegations, Sukesh promised to arrange her husband’s release from custody in exchange for money. He allegedly used call-spoofing technology to make phone calls appear as though they were coming from government offices.
The alleged extortion continued for more than a year. The matter came to light in August 2021 when Aditi Singh approached the Delhi Police after receiving another demand for ₹1 crore.
Following her complaint, police laid a trap that eventually led to Chandrashekhar’s arrest. The Economic Offences Wing investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against the accused under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Why Was Nora Fatehi Questioned in the Case?
Nora Fatehi was previously questioned by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing regarding her alleged connections with Sukesh Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paulose.
Her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Subsequently, investigators included her as a witness in the supplementary chargesheet.
According to her statement to the police, Nora had interacted with Sukesh through his wife. She has been listed as a prosecution witness in the case.
The Nora Fatehi Sukesh Chandrashekhar case is now awaiting further proceedings, with the actress’s testimony remaining an important part of the court process.
Next Hearing Scheduled for November 6
With Nora Fatehi failing to appear on November 2, the court has postponed the proceedings until November 6. The court’s observations regarding her absence have also brought renewed attention to the case.
The next hearing will be important as the court is expected to take up the matter of her appearance as a prosecution witness. The Nora Fatehi Sukesh Chandrashekhar case continues to move through the legal process, and further developments are awaited.
