Sonarika Bhadoria reveals she was removed from a hit TV show after demanding a salary hike, while her male co-star reportedly received three times more pay.
Television actress Sonarika Bhadoria, who became popular for portraying Goddess Parvati in the hit mythological show Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, has opened up about pay disparity in the entertainment industry. The actress recently revealed that she was removed from a successful television show after requesting a salary increase, while her male co-star reportedly received three times his previous salary.
During an appearance on Hauterrfly’s Male Feminist podcast, Sonarika Bhadoria shared her experience of unequal pay in the television industry. Although she did not reveal the name of the show, its production team or the actors involved, her account has once again brought the issue of gender-based pay differences into the spotlight.
Sonarika Bhadoria Reveals Why She Was Removed From a TV Show
Recalling her experience, Sonarika explained that she had been working on a television show for around a year. During this period, the show’s TRPs had improved significantly, and the channel had even organised a celebration for the team.
The actress said that after the show’s success, she believed the cast deserved recognition and a salary increment. However, when she requested a pay hike, she was questioned about the reason behind her demand.
According to Sonarika Bhadoria, she was eventually replaced without even being informed in advance. She described the experience as being kicked out of the show simply because she had asked for better pay.
Male Co-Star’s Salary Increased Three Times, Says Sonarika
The actress also highlighted the difference in how the production team reportedly treated her male co-star. She revealed that the male actor had threatened to leave the show if his salary was not increased.
Following his demand, his remuneration was reportedly tripled. However, despite the show’s strong performance and her own contribution, Sonarika claimed that she did not receive even a single salary increment.
She said she learned about the difference in salaries through someone associated with the production team. The incident left her questioning the unequal treatment of male and female performers in the industry.

Pay Disparity Exists in Telugu and Tamil Film Industries Too
During the podcast, Sonarika Bhadoria also discussed gender-based pay differences beyond Hindi television. Having worked in Telugu and Tamil films, she said that the issue was prevalent in Tollywood and Kollywood as well.
According to the actress, male performers, including newcomers, are often offered substantial remuneration because audiences consider them the central heroes of films. In comparison, female actors with years of experience in Hindi television may receive significantly lower payments.
She also pointed out that the film industry largely operates around male lead characters, which influences how actors are valued and paid.
