India’s new Aadhaar App has crossed 4 crore (40 million) downloads, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital identity ecosystem. The achievement reflects the growing adoption of the redesigned platform, which enables users to manage Aadhaar-related services directly from their smartphones without relying on physical documents.
Launched on January 28, 2026, the new Aadhaar App replaced the older mAadhaar application and introduces several privacy-focused and user-friendly features designed to simplify identity verification.
Millions of Aadhaar Details Updated Through the App
According to government data, users have actively utilized the app to manage their Aadhaar information:
Around 49 lakh mobile numbers have been updated.
More than 11.65 lakh addresses have been changed.
Nearly 12.5 lakh email addresses have been updated.
The biometric lock and unlock feature has been used over 1.91 crore times.
These numbers highlight the increasing trust in digital Aadhaar services.

If the registered mobile number has been lost or no mobile number was previously linked, users must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorized Aadhaar enrollment center to complete the update.
Address Update Facility Also Available
The Aadhaar App also allows eligible users to update their residential address digitally.
Additionally, the Head of Family (HoF) option enables a family member with the correct Aadhaar address to approve another member’s address update request through the application.

Free Email Address Update Until December 2026
The email update feature was introduced in the Aadhaar App on July 1, 2026.
To encourage digital adoption, the government has waived the ₹75 email update fee for updates completed through the Aadhaar App until December 31, 2026.
Free Online Aadhaar Document Update Extended
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has also extended its free online Aadhaar document update service.
Residents can now update and verify their identity and address documents online free of cost until June 14, 2027, giving users an additional year to complete the process without paying any charges.
Why the New Aadhaar App Matters
One of the biggest improvements in the redesigned Aadhaar App is its focus on privacy and paperless verification.
Instead of submitting photocopies of Aadhaar cards at hotels, telecom stores, or rental offices, users can now securely share only the required information using consent-based digital verification.
This approach minimizes unnecessary exposure of personal data while making identity verification faster and more secure.
