AAP leaders Sagar Rabari and Dr. Karan Barot question BJP over the US trade deal, demanding full transparency. Concerns raised on tariffs, farmers, industries, and economic impact in India.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, State Secretary Sagar Rabari and State Spokesperson Dr. Karan Barot, held a press conference raising serious questions for the BJP government over the recently signed trade deal with the United States. The AAP leaders expressed deep concern about the deal’s potential impact on India’s economy, agriculture, and industry.
Sagar Rabari criticized the government for not disclosing details of the trade deal during the ongoing Parliament session. “Despite the Parliament session being in progress, the government is not providing any information about the trade deal with the US. It appears as though President Donald Trump is making announcements on behalf of India, treating our nation like the 51st US state,” Rabari said.
He highlighted that the deal could harm farmers and domestic industries. Before Trump’s tariff imposition, Indian products faced 2–3% tariffs, which have now increased to 18%. “US agricultural products will enter India at lower prices, affecting our farmers. While some claim the tariff reduction from 25% to 18% benefits consumers, this is misleading because it harms domestic production,” he added.

Rabari further stated that if the Prime Minister discusses the trade deal in Parliament, it could create a nationwide uproar, which may be why Parliament discussions are being avoided. He warned that lack of official disclosure could destabilize the Indian economy, noting that stock markets have already reacted negatively to partial information. Key sectors like textiles, jewelry, and pharmaceuticals are expected to face major setbacks, potentially increasing unemployment and reducing demand, leading to an economic slowdown.
The AAP demanded that the government provide full clarity, including sector-wise and item-wise details: which products received exemptions, the applicable duty rates, and how they will impact Indian businesses. Rabari emphasized that the party will inform farmers and traders about every aspect of the deal once the details are public.
“Instead of sharing partial information or giving small updates, the government should clearly state where and how much duty will be applied. If transparency is avoided, the public and economy will suffer,” Rabari concluded.
AAP also questioned why the government hasn’t publicly showcased the deal, unlike Operation Sindoor, where ministers claimed credit through public hoardings. According to the party, this trade deal is critical for India’s future and should be openly discussed in Parliament for the benefit of the nation.
