Rajesh Ranjan, often known as Pappu Yadav, is the sole independent candidate from Purnia. He has filed 41 criminal complaints against himself.
According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 21 out of the 40 Lok Sabha candidates from Bihar who won in the recently held general election have filed criminal complaints against them.
According to the ADR report, eight (67%), of the 12 BJP MPs, have filed criminal cases. These individuals include Janardan Singh Sigriwal (Maharajganj), Giriraj Singh (Begusarai), Ashok Kumar Yadav (Madhubani), Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal (Paschim Champaran), Pradeep Kumar Singh (Araria), Nityanand Rai (Ujiarpur), Radha Mohan Singh (Purvi Champaran), and Gopaljee Thakur (Darbhanga).
All four RJD MPs—Misa Bharti (Patliputra), Sudhakar Singh (Buxar), Abhay Kumar Sinha (Aurangabad), and Surendra Prasad Yadav (Jahanabad constituency)—have filed major criminal cases.
Out the three Congress MPs, Manoj Kumar (from the Sasaram constituency) is the only one who faces significant criminal allegations.
With the exception of Sudama Prasad, an MP from the CPI-ML (Liberation) in Arrah, and Jitan Ram Manjhi, an MP from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAM (S) in Gaya, all 38 MPs have reported assets over ₹1 crore.
With ₹46.71 crore in assets, Veena Devi of LJP(RV), MP from Vaishali, is the richest person in the BJP. Ravi Shankar Prasad (Patna Sahib) is second with ₹40.60 crore, and Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal (Paschim Champaran) is third with ₹29.05 crore. According to the ADR report, the victorious candidates’ average assets were ₹9.60 crore.
