“Pakistan Follows India’s Lead, Plans Diplomatic Delegations
In what some are calling another “copycat move,” Pakistan is reportedly planning to send diplomatic delegations around the world to brief other nations about the recent situation and escalating tensions. This development comes shortly after India announced its plans to dispatch seven delegations globally to highlight its fight against cross-border terrorism, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Response
The first hint of Pakistan’s intention to follow suit came from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the country’s Foreign Minister. In a social media post, Bhutto revealed that he had been approached by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to lead a diplomatic mission abroad.
“I was contacted earlier today by Prime Minister @CMShehbaz, who requested that I lead a delegation to present Pakistan’s case for peace on the international stage. I am honoured to accept this responsibility and remain committed to serving Pakistan in these challenging times,” Bhutto-Zardari shared in his post. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Pakistani government regarding the delegation’s launch.
A Parallel to India’s Strategy
India had announced earlier that it would send seven all-party delegations to various countries to reinforce its stance of zero tolerance against terrorism. This diplomatic outreach aims to share India’s perspective on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the military operation, Sindoor, which India claims was linked to cross-border terrorism.
The Indian delegations will be led by prominent leaders, including:
-
Shashi Tharoor (Indian National Congress)
-
Ravi Shankar Prasad (Bharatiya Janata Party)
-
Sanjay Kumar Jha (Janata Dal United)
-
Baijayant Panda (Bharatiya Janata Party)
-
Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam)
-
Supriya Sule (Nationalist Congress Party)
-
Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena)
These leaders will carry the message of India’s commitment to fighting terrorism and share details about the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor with international counterparts.
A Growing Diplomatic Battle
The fact that Pakistan has decided to send a delegation of its own, seemingly as a direct response to India’s move, raises questions about the diplomatic battle that may be unfolding on the global stage. With both countries aiming to present their cases and perspectives to the international community, the world is likely to see more international diplomacy revolving around the sensitive issue of cross-border terrorism.
Despite the absence of an official statement from the Pakistani government, Bhutto’s willingness to take on this diplomatic task indicates that Pakistan is preparing for an increased international presence to counter India’s narrative.
