Akshay Kumar’s Welcome To The Jungle makes headlines for ₹1.8 crore fee and ₹120 crore pre-release deal, revealing a new Bollywood earnings model.
Akshay Kumar’s upcoming comedy entertainer Welcome To The Jungle is once again making headlines ahead of its theatrical release. The third installment in the popular Welcome franchise has already generated strong buzz, not just for its star-studded cast but also for its unique financial structure and reported earnings model.
Massive ₹120 crore already recovered before release
According to industry reports, the makers of Welcome To The Jungle have already secured around ₹120 crore through the sale of non-theatrical rights. These include OTT streaming rights, satellite broadcasting rights, audio rights, and other ancillary revenue streams.
This early revenue recovery has significantly reduced the financial pressure on the film’s theatrical performance. The Welcome franchise, which began with Welcome (2007) and continued with Welcome Back (2015), has maintained strong audience recall, helping the new installment secure lucrative pre-release deals.
Akshay Kumar’s reported ₹1.8 crore upfront fee
One of the most talked-about aspects of the project is Akshay Kumar’s remuneration. Reports suggest that the actor has charged only ₹1.8 crore as his upfront fee for the film, which is significantly lower than his usual market fee.
However, this does not represent his total earnings from the project. Instead of a traditional high fixed fee, Akshay has reportedly opted for a backend profit-sharing agreement tied to the film’s intellectual property (IP) and revenue performance.

Profit-sharing model: The real earnings structure
As per reports, Akshay Kumar is expected to receive around 72% share in the film’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) earnings, while the producers will retain the remaining 28%.
This structure allows the actor to earn substantially more if the film performs well across theatrical and non-theatrical platforms. Industry experts note that such deals are increasingly becoming common in big-budget Bollywood films, as they help balance financial risk between producers and stars.
Not the first Bollywood star to adopt this model
Akshay Kumar is not alone in choosing a backend-based remuneration structure. Several top Bollywood actors, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, have also worked on profit-sharing models in select projects.
Similarly, reports from other productions like Dhurandhar suggest that actors such as Ranveer Singh have also opted for reduced upfront fees in exchange for backend participation in profits.
