Initiative launched by Energy Minister Anil Vij
Haryana’s Energy Minister Anil Vij said that a important programme has been launched today to improve the electricity distribution system in Ambala Cantonment. Anil Vij said that a city where previous governments did not spend even 38 paise is now witnessing strengthening of its power infrastructure at a cost of Rs. 38 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). During the tenure of the present government, development works worth billions of rupees have been carried out in Ambala Cantonment.
Anil Vij was addressing a large public gathering at Kabadi Bazaar in Ambala Cantonment after inaugurating the works aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution system under the RDSS.
The Energy Minister Anil Vij said that “The entire city’s power infrastructure will be upgraded so that people can work, businesses can grow, and trade can flourish.” The project will be completed within the next one year. Seeking public cooperation, he said that work is being done in every sector, and with the love and support of the people, he is confident that the city will continue to progress.
Anil Vij informed that seven new feeders will be constructed at a cost of Rs.38 crore, which will help in better load balancing and ensure stable voltage supply. Similarly, 127 new transformers will be installed to resolve voltage-related issues. Several old transformers currently installed on roads and pathways will also be relocated.

In addition, 617 kilometers of ACSR conductor and 454 kilometers of LT XLPE cable will be replaced with modern insulated wires, while 28 kilometers of HD XLPE cable will be laid. This will significantly reduce fault incidents and make power supply safer and more reliable. To further strengthen the network, 6,131 new PCC poles will be installed, providing new strength to the electricity infrastructure in both rural and urban areas.
After completion of all these works, around 1.5 lakh citizens will directly benefit from the scheme. Farmers, domestic consumers, traders, and industries will all receive improved and uninterrupted power supply.
Staff quarters to be built in the XEN office complex
The Energy Minister Anil Vij said that a new XEN office has been constructed in Ambala Cantonment, where SDO No. 1 and 2 are also functioning under one roof. Instructions have also been given to construct staff quarters within the same premises. He added that a new sub-station is being set up near Shahpur–Machhonda, which will benefit residents living across the railway line. Similarly, a new service centre has been established in village Garnala. Earlier, villages from Panjokhra Sahib to Baldev Nagar had to go to Ambala city, but all these villages have now been connected to the Ambala Cantonment sub-station. A new service centre is also planned for the industrial area.
Uninterrupted power supply ensured during peak summer season in the state; officers deserve appreciation
Sh. Anil Vij said that ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to households has two aspects—power generation and transmission through substations, transformers, and power lines. Both sectors must function efficiently. Haryana currently generates around 3,000 MW of power, with thermal plants in Panipat, Khedar, and Yamunanagar. An 800 MW plant in Yamunanagar was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Another 800 MW thermal plant is being set up in Khedar, and approval has been sought from the central government for a plant in Panipat as well.
