Arvind Kejriwal urges the UP govt to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation for the Lucknow Vikas Nagar slum fire victims who lost their lifelong savings.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has expressed his deepest condolences following the tragic fire that gutted a slum settlement in Vikas Nagar, Lucknow, on Wednesday evening. The blaze, fueled by exploding LPG cylinders, reduced over 280 shanties to ashes, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless and claiming the lives of two minor children.
A Lifelong Loss for the Poor
Reacting to the heart-wrenching incident, Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the disaster has robbed these families of much more than just their shelters. “My deepest condolences go out to the victim families who have lost everything in the devastating fire that broke out in the slum settlement located in Vikas Nagar, Lucknow,” he stated.
The fire spread with such ferocity that residents had no time to save their belongings. Arvind Kejriwal noted that for these migrant workers and daily wagers, the loss is total. “It is not just the roof over their heads that these poor families have lost; their lifelong savings and means of livelihood have also been reduced to ashes in the flames,” he added.

Demand for Prompt Rehabilitation
Recognizing the vulnerability of the affected population—many of whom work as e-rickshaw drivers, domestic helps, and gig workers—Arvind Kejriwal made a humble yet firm request to the Uttar Pradesh government. He urged the state authorities to move beyond temporary measures and provide a comprehensive support package.
“I humbly request the government to make prompt arrangements for appropriate relief, employment, and rehabilitation for the affected families,” said Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP leader highlighted that without immediate employment assistance and a permanent housing solution, these families would struggle to recover from this massive financial and emotional blow.
Current Situation in Vikas Nagar
The fire, which broke out in Sector 11 near the Ring Road, took nearly 20 fire tenders and several hours to control. While the district administration has moved many to temporary shelters (rain baseras), the scale of the tragedy remains immense. Arvind Kejriwal’s call for action mirrors the growing demand for accountability and better safety protocols in densely populated urban settlements.
