Initiative linked to new law on Guru Granth Sahib respect
The Shukrana Yatra has been launched in connection with the implementation of the “Jaagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Law Amendment 2026.” According to the state government, the law has been introduced to curb incidents of sacrilege involving the Guru Granth Sahib and ensure strict legal action against offenders.
The yatra has been named “Shukrana,” meaning gratitude, to symbolize reverence towards the Sikh Gurus and to acknowledge the legislative step taken for protecting religious sentiments.
CM Mann’s statement on religious respect
Addressing the gathering at Anandpur Sahib, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that his government is fully committed to safeguarding the dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He said that the demand for stringent action against sacrilege cases had been long-standing among the people of Punjab.
He added that the government has acted in accordance with public sentiment and religious sensitivity to ensure justice in such matters.
“The land of Punjab belongs to Gurus, saints, and spiritual leaders. Respect for all religious beliefs is of utmost importance in our state,” Mann said.
Statewide outreach through Shukrana Yatra
The Shukrana Yatra will travel across multiple districts of Punjab, aiming to spread awareness about the new law and reinforce the message of respect and harmony. The government has described it as both a spiritual journey and a public outreach initiative.
The campaign is expected to engage large gatherings across the state, focusing on unity, religious respect, and legal awareness regarding sacrilege prevention.
