The long-standing dispute over the reconstruction of the Bhalaut and Jhajjar sub-branch canal has finally been resolved, following the intervention of Haryana’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry. A consensus has been reached between farmers, local residents, and the irrigation department, paving the way for the project to move forward with renewed momentum.

Farmers’ Concerns Addressed Through Revised Plan

Farmers and villagers from several areas connected to the Bhalaut and Jhajjar sub-branch had raised objections against the earlier proposal of fully cement-concreting the canal bed. The local communities expressed concerns over its potential impact on water flow and agricultural usage.

Taking these concerns into account, the department held detailed discussions with stakeholders to find a balanced solution acceptable to all parties.

Revised Canal Reconstruction Plan Approved

As per the new agreement, it has been decided that only 10 feet of the canal bed will be constructed using concrete lining, while the remaining portion will be developed using block lining. This modification ensures structural strength while also addressing farmers’ concerns.

The revised plan is expected to improve both irrigation efficiency and environmental balance in the region.

Development of Ghats and Steps Along Canal

The updated project design also includes additional infrastructure improvements. Steps will be constructed between every two bridges to improve accessibility for local residents.

In addition, ghats will be developed alongside each bridge, providing space for community use and enhancing the usability of the canal surroundings.

The breakthrough was made possible due to continuous efforts by Irrigation Minister Shruti Choudhry, who facilitated dialogue between all stakeholders. Her intervention helped bridge differences and finalize a mutually acceptable solution.
