Bihar CM Nitish Kumar disburses Rs 1,000 crore to 10 lakh women under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, boosting entrepreneurship and self-employment.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday distributed Rs 1,000 crore among 10 lakh women beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment among women in the state.
Kumar, who recently secured a historic fifth consecutive term, handed out Rs 10,000 to each eligible woman through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system from his official residence in the presence of cabinet ministers and senior officials. The scheme encourages beneficiaries to invest the amount in self-employment activities, with the prospect of receiving additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh per participant upon successful utilization.
Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar highlighted that the initiative has already benefitted 1.56 crore women, significantly empowering them financially and promoting entrepreneurial ventures across Bihar. He emphasized that registration with local Jeevika self-help groups is mandatory for receiving the aid, and authorities are actively ensuring compliance so that no eligible woman misses out.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana was launched in September, just a month before the assembly elections, in a virtual event graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The disbursement process continued in phases post-elections, drawing political attention and allegations from opposition parties, including RJD and Jan Suraaj Party, who claimed irregularities and vote influence.
However, the state government dismissed these allegations, pointing out that proper registration and adherence to the scheme’s requirements are prerequisites for receiving benefits. Officials noted that the program has been instrumental in increasing voter turnout among women and has contributed to the ruling NDA’s strong electoral performance.
With this massive cash transfer, Bihar aims to boost women’s economic participation, strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship, and promote financial independence among female citizens, aligning with broader state and national development goals
