The central government has taken a major decision regarding India’s Free Ration Scheme, which is expected to directly benefit millions of people in Uttar Pradesh. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation of the SARTHAK-PDS Phase 2 scheme.

This decision will have a significant impact on Uttar Pradesh, where nearly 15 to 16 crore beneficiaries are currently receiving benefits under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Scheme Extended Till 16th Finance Commission Period

According to official information, the SARTHAK-PDS scheme will continue through the tenure of the 16th Finance Commission. The central government has allocated ₹25,530 crore for its implementation, aiming to strengthen India’s food security framework.

CM Yogi Adityanath Welcomes Decision

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the central government’s move, calling it a historic step toward strengthening food security for the poor. He said the initiative will ensure transparent and technology-driven distribution of essential commodities.

Deputy CM Also Expresses Gratitude

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also thanked the central government, stating that the decision will make the ration distribution system more transparent, efficient, and technology-based. He added that it strengthens the government’s commitment to “Antyodaya” and “Garib Kalyan.”

Modernization of Distribution System

The government has also introduced reforms in the funding and operational structure of the Public Distribution System. These include improvements in transportation, warehouse-to-shop delivery, and commission systems for ration shop dealers, while maintaining the existing funding model.
