Arvinder Singh Lovely resigns
Arvinder Singh Lovely, the president of the Congress’s Delhi branch, resigned from his position on Sunday, citing the party’s affiliation with the AAP as one of the reasons. This was a blow to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the party a few days after Rajkumar Chauhan, a former Delhi minister and member of the All-India Congress Committee, did so during a Delhi Congress disciplinary committee meeting. Additionally, he called for Deepak Babaria, the AICC’s chief, to be fired.
Arvinder Singh Lovely, a minister in the Sheila Dikshit administration, was named chief of the Delhi Congress in August of last year.
Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in his resignation letter expressing his disapproval of the choice to form an alliance with the AAP, a party he claimed was fabricating allegations of corruption against the Congress.

Arvinder Singh Lovely stated that the Delhi Congress unit opposed the merger with the AAP and emphasized that Babaria had “unilaterally vetoed” every consensual decision made by senior Delhi unit leaders.
Lovely made sure that the state unit complied with the decision, even if he had doubts about the alliance. However, he voiced his displeasure with Kanhaiya Kumar, the candidate for North East Delhi, for making remarks that he felt went against the party’s position and complimented the AAP government’s performance.
He also mentioned the press conference where the Congress unveiled its nominees in his letter. The candidacies of North West Delhi’s Udit Raj and North East Delhi’s Kanhaiya Kumar had drawn criticism from certain party members.
“I attempted to defuse the situation by openly asserting that everyone in a democratic party system has the right to express their disagreement… if the circumstances were already unpleasant, they were exacerbated by the North West Delhi candidate’s disparaging and anti-party remarks,” he continued.
Even still, some party members congregated outside Lovely’s home to chant anti-Babaria slogans. However, he noted that Lovely ought to have spoken his concerns in front of the party and that all DPCC members had been given the benefit of the doubt.
Arvinder Singh Lovely belonged to every committee and panel, thus he ought to have voiced his concerns at the time. Babaria informed the media that “people who disassociate themselves from any party or post tend to find a reason to do so.”
Additionally, after Lovely resigned, a brawl allegedly broke out outside his home as Lovely’s supporters shoved former Congress MLA Asif Muhammad Khan.
Khan declared, “Lovely ought to have gotten in touch with the president of Congress; this is an internal matter.” He is giving the BJP an edge by making his resignation letter public.
He further claimed that Arvinder Singh Lovely will be named the party’s candidate from the constituency and that the BJP would replace Harsh Malhotra, its candidate for East Delhi.
