Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann slams SGPC over missing Sri Guru Granth Sahib copies, demands transparency and accountability for the Sangat, and urges SIT to continue investigation without interference.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has raised serious concerns over the missing copies of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and criticized the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for allegedly obstructing transparency. Mann emphasized that the Sikh community, or Sangat, has the right to know the truth behind the disappearance of the sacred scriptures.
Speaking to journalists in Chandigarh, CM Bhagwant Mann questioned why SGPC has not cooperated with the government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the matter. “The Sangat deserves to know the truth. The SIT must be allowed to carry out its investigation without interference,” he said.

Mann also highlighted that SGPC elections have not been held for the past 14 years, yet there has been no accountability. Referring to resolutions passed by the SGPC in 2020, he stated that the organization itself had previously called for legal action against those responsible for the missing copies, but recent actions have reversed these resolutions.
“The Akal Takht should not be used as a shield for mismanagement. SGPC’s actions raise serious questions about transparency and governance,” Bhagwant Mann said. He further criticized the Shiromani Akali Dal, remarking that the party has transformed from being a forceful political entity to one that “now acts like a shadow of its former self.”
The CM Bhagwant Mann stressed that the government is committed to ensuring that justice is served and the Sangat is informed about the status of the missing Sri Guru Granth Sahib copies. He also reiterated that the investigation should continue without any political or organizational interference.
