CM Mohan Yadav stated that while the Maha Kumbh is being held in Prayagraj, Bhopal is launching its own “Ardh Kumbh” in water sports. He highlighted that alongside their duty to ensure public safety and uphold law and order, police personnel are also making significant achievements in sports. Many officers have demonstrated their talent in various disciplines at both national and international levels, bringing pride to the nation. Hosting this prestigious All India competition at Bhopal’s historic Upper Lake, built by Raja Bhoj, is an honor for both the state and its capital. This event will further encourage interest in water sports.CM Mohan Yadav made these remarks at the inauguration of the 24th All India Police Water Sports Competition.
Upon his arrival at the Upper Lake Water Sports Center, the police band welcomed the Chief Minister. He interacted with team managers from different states and police units present in Bhopal. CM Mohan Yadav officially launched the event by releasing tricolor balloons into the sky. The competing teams participated in a march-past and row-past in front of him. He also unveiled a commemorative booklet and administered the oath to the participating teams. The Director General of Police, Shri Kailash Makwana, presented him with a memento of the All India event. Throughout the ceremony, the police band played patriotic tunes, and several senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri J. N. Konsotia, were in attendance.
CM Mohan Yadav emphasized the pride associated with those who serve in the police, paramilitary, and army, as they are called “jawans” (soldiers) and maintain their youthful spirit of dedication throughout their service. He encouraged them to uphold their enthusiasm, energy, and commitment to the nation. Stressing the significance of fitness, he remarked that a healthy body leads to a sound mind, and sports play a vital role in fostering physical, intellectual, and spiritual well-being.
Welcoming the teams from various states and central paramilitary forces, CM Mohan Yadav wished them success. He also reflected on the importance of water in ancient traditions, calling it a fundamental life element. Noting that water bodies provide peace and tranquility, he praised Bhopal’s Upper Lake as an exemplary structure in water management, where a dam has been built while ensuring the natural flow of the river remains undisturbed.
The competition, running from February 17 to 21, includes 27 events in kayaking, canoeing, and rowing for both men and women. A total of 360 medals and trophies will be awarded, with 557 athletes from 22 teams, including 123 women, representing state police forces and central paramilitary units. This marks the sixth time that the Madhya Pradesh Police has hosted the event.
Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana highlighted that sports have deep historical roots and are mentioned in ancient Indian texts. He noted that Bhopal’s Upper Lake not only serves as an essential water source but also contributes to the promotion of water sports. With strong government support under CM Mohan Yadav’s leadership, Bhopal is emerging as a hub for water sports in the country.
Teams from various states and paramilitary forces, including Andaman and Nicobar, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, CRPF, ITBP, and Sashastra Seema Bal, are participating in the All India Police Water Sports Competition.
