Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini paid heartfelt tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh on his martyrdom day, describing his ultimate sacrifice as an enduring symbol of patriotism, courage, and selflessness in India’s struggle for independence.
At a commemorative event held at Baba Bhuman Shah Dham in Sangar Sarista, Sirsa, CM Nayab praised Udham Singh’s unwavering resolve against colonial oppression. He said the revolutionary’s fearless stand and supreme sacrifice continue to motivate future generations to serve the nation with dedication.
Marking the occasion, CM Nayab Saini announced that a land plot would be allocated to Kamboj Sabha in Panchkula. He also assured that similar land-related requests from the Sabha in Fatehabad, Kaithal, and Jagadhri would be prioritized. Additionally, he declared that village Bara Suleman in Hisar would be renamed “Udampura” to honour the martyr’s legacy.
Responding to public demands raised during the event, CM Nayab stated that a government Ayurvedic college and hospital named after Baba Bhuman Shah would be considered following a feasibility study. He also supported the construction of a drain from Ghaggar River via Rampura Dhani, subject to viability. Regarding OBC reservations in Class I and II government jobs, he assured the issue would be discussed with the OBC Commission. Other proposals would be reviewed by the concerned departments.
Remembering a Vow of Justice
CM Nayab Saini recalled the deep impact of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre on Udham Singh, who was present at the scene serving water to the crowd. Disturbed by the brutality, Singh vowed to avenge the killings, eventually assassinating Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, in London on March 13, 1940. Singh was later executed at Pentonville Prison on July 31, 1940. The CM called his actions a powerful symbol of justice and resistance, and also paid tribute to other great revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Madan Lal Dhingra for their sacrifices.
Fulfilling the Dreams of Martyrs
CM Nayab Saini reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling the dreams of India’s martyrs by promoting inclusive development and empowering all sections of society. He announced that a war memorial is being built in Ambala to honour the heroes of the 1857 revolt, adding, “We may never fully repay our debt to the martyrs, but we must acknowledge it with gratitude and meaningful action.”
He also noted that the monthly pension for freedom fighters and their widows in Haryana has been increased from ₹25,000 to ₹40,000 as part of ongoing welfare efforts.
Focus on Backward Classes
Highlighting the government’s emphasis on social equity,CM Nayab said the state remains aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He noted that the National Commission for Backward Classes has been granted constitutional status and that OBCs now benefit from reservations in medical education, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Sainik Schools.
In Haryana, BC-A and BC-B communities have been granted 8% and 5% reservation respectively in Panchayati Raj institutions, with 50% of Panchayat positions allocated based on population share. In urban bodies, BC-B candidates receive 5% reservation for mayoral roles and 50% for councillor posts proportionate to their local population. He also highlighted the ₹51,000 financial assistance provided for the marriage of daughters in economically weaker families earning below ₹1.8 lakh annually.
Honouring Martyrs, Promoting Unity
CM Nayab urged citizens to honour the legacy of India’s martyrs by pledging to preserve national unity and work together for the state and the country’s development. “Martyrs live on through our actions. Let us dedicate ourselves to safeguarding the freedom they fought for and building a stronger, united India,” he said.
Spiritual Leaders Speak Out
Baba Brahm Das of Dera Baba Bhuman Shah Ji welcomed the CM and praised his dedication to public welfare. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the martyrs, embrace moral values, and contribute sincerely to nation-building. He also expressed concern over drug abuse, calling it a grave social issue and urged collective efforts to eradicate it from society.
The event was also attended by spiritual leaders including Swami Brahmanand Ji, Sh. Mahesh Muni Ji, Mahant Gomti Das Ji, Mahant Sagar Nath Ji, along with dignitaries like German MP Sh. Rahul Kamboj, former Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal, ex-ministers Sh. Subhash Sudha, Sh. Karan Dev Kamboj, former MP Smt. Sunita Duggal, and former MLA Sh. Dura Ram, among others.
