Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini emphasized that cleanliness and yoga will significantly contribute to achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). As part of the build-up to International Yoga Day 2025, a cleanliness drive was launched on May 27, and daily yoga sessions have commenced in preparation for the grand celebration on June 21.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative at the United Nations, the Chief Minister noted that 177 countries endorsed the idea of observing International Yoga Day, spreading yoga from India to every corner of the globe. CM Saini lauded the Prime Minister for his global advocacy of yoga.
He described the upcoming Yoga Day event in Kurukshetra as historic and grand, noting that yoga embodies the essence of India’s ancient wisdom. He highlighted that sages and rishis gave yoga and meditation as a valuable gift to humanity, helping individuals maintain good health naturally.
CM Nayab Singh Saini made these remarks while addressing a coordination meeting with various organizations at the Multi Art Cultural Centre in Kurukshetra.
Urging representatives from institutions, NGOs, and business communities to actively support the event, CM Saini specifically requested Patanjali Yog Peeth to help spread yoga awareness in every household in the city.
Praising Swami Ramdev for his role in popularizing yoga nationwide and globally, CM Saini said it is an honour for the people of Kurukshetra to welcome Baba Ramdev on June 21 to the sacred land of Lord Krishna.
He shared that this year’s International Yoga Day is themed ‘One Earth, One Health’, and the Haryana Government has added the slogan ‘Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt’ to promote both wellness and a drug-free lifestyle.
CM Saini expressed concern over people relying on medications for minor health issues that yoga can easily prevent. He stressed the need for society—especially the youth—to embrace yoga to fight addiction and improve health. He invited everyone in Kurukshetra to gather at Brahma Sarovar and Mela Ground by 4 a.m. on June 21 for the mass yoga event, calling it a ‘spiritual yajna’ of well-being.
He appealed for enthusiastic participation and urged everyone to take responsibility seriously, just as they do during traditional festivals like Diwali, Holi, or Bhaidooj.
Massive Arrangements for State-Level Celebration
Officials announced that Brahma Sarovar and Mela Ground have been divided into 103 sectors—64 in Brahma Sarovar and 37 in the surrounding areas—with each sector accommodating 1,000 yoga participants.
Oath to Promote Yoga and Healthy Living
CM Saini also administered an oath to representatives of institutions, NGOs, and attendees, encouraging them to incorporate yoga, pranayama, and meditation into their daily routines, abstain from substance abuse, and inspire others to do the same—at home, in their communities, and at workplaces.
Widespread Public Participation Anticipated
Former State Minister Subhash Sudha said the people of Kurukshetra are fortunate to host the event, which will be broadcast globally. He assured the Chief Minister that families from every home in the city would participate and requested the establishment of a meditation centre in Kurukshetra.
Yoga Day Linked with Environmental Awareness
Dr. Jaideep Arya, Chairman of the Haryana Yog Aayog, stated that this year’s celebrations would also initiate environmental protection. On June 21, 10 lakh yoga enthusiasts across the state will plant medicinal herbs, and over one lakh participants in Kurukshetra will aim to set a world record with a mass yoga session.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, SP Nitish Agarwal, District Council President Kanwaljit Kaur, and other prominent figures were also present at the event.
