A high-level meeting on the inter-state water-sharing issue was chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on Tuesday at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi, with Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in attendance. The discussions were conducted in a cordial and constructive manner.
Addressing the media afterward, CM Nayab Singh Saini said that the meeting marked an important step forward in the ongoing dialogue between Haryana and Punjab on water sharing. He noted that the earlier round of talks on July 9 had already shown signs of progress, and this time the discussions moved a step further in an even more positive and cooperative atmosphere.
CM Nayab Singh Saini affirmed that Haryana would present its case before the Supreme Court on August 13 in a constructive and solution-oriented manner, expressing confidence in achieving a fair and favourable outcome.
Responding to a query, he clarified that the Indus Waters Treaty is a separate matter, under which Rajasthan is also entitled to its share of water.
The meeting was also attended by Union Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary (Irrigation and Water Resources) Anurag Agarwal, and other senior departmental officials.
