Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the closing ceremony of the Chief Minister Championship Trophy 2025-26 in Dehradun, where he felicitated the winning players and praised the state’s new sports policy for giving a fresh identity to athletes across Uttarakhand. The policy aims to encourage sports at the grassroots level, provide out-of-turn government jobs to deserving athletes, and systematically develop world-class sports infrastructure in the state.
At the ceremony held at Nandur Kheda Mini Stadium, the Dehradun district team emerged victorious in the state-level competition. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya, presented the championship trophy and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh to the winning team.
New Sports Policy Promotes Talent Across Uttarakhand
Addressing the gathering, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said the championship was organized in a new, multi-tiered format starting from the Panchayat level, moving through Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies, and culminating at the state level. This approach has helped identify new champions and provided a larger platform for talent from rural areas. He also mentioned that medal-winning athletes will receive 4% reservation in government jobs, boosting youth morale and ensuring career opportunities for sports talent.
Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya emphasized that the Uttarakhand government is committed to ensuring a bright future for athletes. She highlighted that out-of-turn appointments, job reservations, and systematic infrastructure development have strengthened the state’s sports ecosystem, positioning Uttarakhand as a leading sports hub in India.

Sports Minister Rekha Arya shared that over the past four years, the government has introduced significant initiatives for athletes, including:
Out-of-turn government job appointments for medal-winning players
4% reservation in government jobs for athletes
Scholarships for young players
Establishment of the first Sports University in Uttarakhand
Launch of a Girls Sports College in Lohaghat
She added that the upcoming 39th National Games will serve as a major preparatory platform for athletes aiming to participate in India’s proposed Commonwealth Games 2030 and the potential Olympic Games in 2036, underscoring the importance of early preparation and training.
Massive Participation Across Uttarakhand
The event witnessed thousands of players from all districts of the state, alongside prominent officials including MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Special Chief Secretary Amit Sinha, Director of Sports Ashish Chauhan, Deputy Director Ajay Agarwal, and Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal. The championship stands as a testament to Uttarakhand’s ongoing efforts to nurture talent, promote sports culture, and prepare the state for international competitions.
