Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday reiterated that her government is fully committed to fulfilling all welfare promises made to economically weaker women, including providing a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 and subsidised cooking gas cylinders. The CM made these remarks while addressing the Jhuggi–Jhopdi Swabhiman Sabha held in the Wazirpur Industrial Area during her campaign for the upcoming MCD by-elections.

CM Rekha Gupta Assures Slum Dwellers of Permanent Housing

Speaking at the gathering in support of BJP’s Ashok Vihar candidate Veena Asija, CM Rekha Gupta assured residents living in Delhi’s slum clusters that the government will ensure permanent pucca houses for all eligible families.

Rekha Gupta stated that the welfare of poor households remains a top priority for her administration, highlighting that a ₹700 crore dedicated budget has already been allocated for the upliftment of slum areas. This fund is being used for developing:

• Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

• Atal Canteens

• Basti Vikas Kendras

• Road and drainage improvement

• Essential civic facilities in slum localities

Rekha Gupta emphasized that her government continues to draw inspiration from a pro-poor governance model, ensuring true empowerment rather than treating slum residents as mere vote banks.

Neglect of Slum Settlements by Previous Governments

Addressing the long-standing grievances of slum dwellers, the CM said families living in such settlements have suffered for decades due to negligence. Basic facilities such as toilets, roads, parks, drainage systems, and permanent housing were never prioritised by earlier administrations.

She further announced that the government will restart the process of issuing ration cards, a system that had been inactive for nearly 15 years. Under this initiative:

• Ration cards of ineligible beneficiaries will be cancelled

• New ration cards will be issued to genuine needy families

Delhi Government Begins Cleaning of 6.8 km Trunk Sewer Line

In another major development, the Delhi government has started the cleaning of a 6.85 km trunk sewer line from Jail Road to the Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant. The project will cost approximately ₹13 crore, officials said.

This main sewer line had nearly 65% silt accumulation, leading to severe drainage issues in multiple areas, including:

• Virender Nagar

• Shiv Nagar

• Hari Nagar

• Parts of Janakpuri

The cleaning work is expected to provide significant relief in these regions by improving sewage flow and preventing frequent waterlogging.
