CM Yogi Adityanath announces 1% recovery relief for non-hybrid paddy, benefiting farmers and rice millers in Uttar Pradesh. ₹167 crore compensation to boost employment, investment, and rural economy.
In a significant move to support farmers and rice millers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a 1% recovery relief for the milling of non-hybrid paddy. The state government will compensate the difference from its budget, with an allocation of ₹167 crore dedicated to this initiative.
Boost for Farmers and Rice Millers
CM Yogi emphasized that this decision respects the interests and concerns of both paddy growers and rice millers. The relief aims to encourage farmers and rice mills, enhancing employment opportunities and investment in the sector. The Chief Minister highlighted that rice millers are not only a backbone of the paddy procurement process but also a crucial driver of employment generation across Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, non-hybrid paddy milling often fell short of the expected recovery percentage, which became a concern for both farmers and millers. This new relief package addresses that issue directly, providing financial compensation from the state budget.
Impact on the Rice Milling Industry
CM Yogi expressed confidence that this measure would inject new energy into the rice milling sector, boosting rural economic growth. The 1% recovery relief is expected to increase competition and accelerate the government’s procurement processes. Estimates suggest that 13–15 lakh farmers and over 2,000 rice mills will directly benefit from this decision.
Additionally, the relief package is expected to create approximately 2 lakh new employment opportunities in the state, while also promoting national-level savings by reducing the need for importing rice for the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Ongoing Support for Paddy Milling
The UP government has already been offering a 3% recovery relief for hybrid paddy milling, compensating nearly ₹100 crore annually. With this new decision for non-hybrid paddy, the government strengthens its commitment to the agricultural sector and rural economy, ensuring fair support for both farmers and millers alike.
This initiative is being hailed as a major step toward empowering farmers, enhancing the rice milling industry, and promoting sustainable rural growth in Uttar Pradesh.
