UP CM Yogi orders immediate repair of rain-damaged roads, prioritising routes near schools, hospitals, markets and government offices before festivals.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to immediately repair rain-damaged roads across the state and make them suitable for vehicular movement. He also instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to assess newly damaged stretches continuously and undertake permanent road renewal wherever required after the monsoon.
During a review meeting on Friday, September 11, the Chief Minister stressed that road conditions must be monitored regularly as rainfall continues across parts of Uttar Pradesh. He said immediate repairs should be carried out on roads that have become difficult to use, while long-term reconstruction should be taken up after the rainy season.
CM Yogi Orders Immediate Action on Damaged Roads
Yogi Adityanath said rain-damaged roads should first be restored to a motorable condition without delay. He made it clear that the road improvement drive should not be restricted to temporary patchwork.
According to the Chief Minister, roads that are severely deteriorated should undergo proper renewal once the monsoon is over. Officials have also been directed to ensure that repair work is completed quickly without compromising construction quality.
The CM emphasised that roads have a direct impact on the daily lives of people and therefore require continuous attention, particularly during the rainy season.
Roads Near Schools, Hospitals to Get Priority
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to prioritise rain-damaged roads located near places that witness significant public movement.
Roads around educational institutions, hospitals, major markets and government offices have been specifically identified for immediate attention. Officials have been asked to begin repair work on such routes and ensure that people do not face unnecessary difficulties while travelling.
The Chief Minister also directed authorities to complete essential repairs ahead of the upcoming festive season, when traffic and public movement are expected to increase considerably.
681 Important Routes Identified Before Festivals
With several major festivals approaching, the state government has identified 681 important routes for priority maintenance and improvement.
These routes include roads that are expected to witness increased traffic during festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Puja, Navratri, Diwali, Chhath Puja and Kartik Purnima.
The administration is preparing to improve the condition of these routes so that devotees, commuters and other travellers can move without major disruptions during the festive period.

Heavy Vehicle Movement Also Damaging Roads
Officials informed the Chief Minister that excessive rainfall is not the only reason behind the deterioration of roads in the state.
Several stretches have also suffered damage due to the movement of heavy vehicles associated with ongoing construction projects. Work related to expressways, national highways, railway infrastructure and other major projects has contributed to additional pressure on some roads.
Authorities have therefore been asked to identify newly affected stretches and take corrective measures based on their condition.
Permanent Renewal After Monsoon
The government has adopted a two-stage approach for rain-damaged roads. The immediate priority is to make affected routes safe and motorable, while permanent repairs and renewal will be undertaken after the monsoon wherever necessary.
Yogi Adityanath directed officials to keep surveying roads as rainfall continues so that newly damaged stretches can be identified quickly.
He also stressed that faster execution should go hand in hand with quality control. Simply filling potholes will not be considered sufficient where a road requires comprehensive reconstruction.
Focus on Public Convenience
The Chief Minister said rain-damaged roads are directly linked to the everyday needs of residents and should therefore be repaired according to public requirements.
Special attention will be given to routes connecting schools, hospitals, markets, government offices and other locations with heavy footfall. The administration has been instructed to ensure that essential routes remain accessible during the upcoming festivals.
The state government’s latest directions are aimed at ensuring that rain-damaged roads are made usable immediately, while durable road renewal is carried out wherever required once the monsoon season ends.
