CM Yogi Adityanath pays tribute to late UP MLAs Professor Shyam Bihari Lal and Vijay Singh Gaur, honoring their service to land rights, tribal communities, and public welfare.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid heartfelt tribute to the late members of the state assembly during the ongoing budget session. CM Yogi recognized Professor Shyam Bihari Lal as a grounded leader connected to his constituency, while he described Vijay Singh Gaur as a strong voice for tribal communities and a fighter for fundamental rights from roads to resource management.
During the second day of the budget session on Tuesday, CM Yogi expressed his grief over the passing of Professor Shyam Bihari Lal, a two-time BJP MLA from Faridpur (Bareilly), who passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 60. Known for his approachable nature and dedication to public service, Professor Lal had deep ties to the education sector. He had served as the President of the History Compilation Committee in Bareilly and as a member of the Working Committee at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Dedication to the Welfare of the Marginalized
CM Yogi highlighted that Professor Lal had tirelessly worked to improve basic infrastructure in his constituency and prioritized the welfare of backward, underprivileged, and marginalized communities. As an academic turned legislator, he strengthened democratic traditions through his service. His demise leaves a significant void in the BJP and the state’s political and social landscape.
The Chief Minister also mourned the death of senior assembly member Vijay Singh Gaur, who passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 71. Representing the Samajwadi Party, Gaur had been elected as an MLA eight times, beginning his political journey in 1980. He most recently won the by-election from Dudhi constituency in 2024. Recognized as a champion for tribal rights, Gaur consistently prioritized issues such as water, forests, land, education, healthcare, roads, and employment.
CM Yogi stated that the passing of Vijay Singh Gaur is not only a loss for the tribal communities but also for the entire state, as it marks the departure of a committed social worker and experienced politician. He offered condolences to the families of both leaders and prayed for their strength in this difficult time.
Both leaders leave behind a legacy of commitment to public service, social justice, and grassroots development, inspiring current and future generations of politicians in Uttar Pradesh.
