Horticulture Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra says a ₹14 lakh first installment has been sanctioned for this center, which would allow for the manufacturing of silk seed grains beginning in September and supply them to farmers at reasonable costs.

The sole silk seed ginning center in Punjab was reopened on Friday at Dalhousie, Himachali Pradesh. It had been closed for the previous fifteen years. Chetan Singh Jouramajra, the minister of horticulture, reviewed the facility and gave the relevant directives to the staff members.

“Previous dispensations neglected this important asset of the state,” he said. This center has received approval for a ₹14 lakh initial investment, which will allow for the manufacture of silk seed grains beginning in September and their reasonable distribution to farmers.

He said that Dalhousie’s climate is ideal for growing silk seeds. Approximately 1,500 farmers in Punjab’s Kandi region will immediately profit from the center’s reopening. He further stated that the advantage would be received by farmers in the districts of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Ropar.

The cabinet minister stated that the Punjab government will be able to produce its own silk seeds with lower transportation costs now that the facility in Dalhousie has reopened. Previously, the department had supplied silkworm rearers from Central Silk Board centers with silk seeds. According to the minister, it will increase the state’s output of silk.

The minister was accompanied on this tour by Sukhveer Singh, the sericulture promotion officer, manager Avtar Singh, development officer Jatinder Kumar, and deputy director of horticulture Hardeep Singh, among other authorities.
