On Republic Day 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hosted representatives from slum communities at the Chief Minister’s Jan Seva Bhavan to mark the launch of key developmental initiatives. The government approved schemes worth ₹327 crore aimed at improving infrastructure, basic amenities, and living conditions in the city’s slum areas. During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that respect, facilities, and inclusive development are top government priorities.
Key Initiatives Launched
CM Rekha Gupta invited representatives from all slum clusters across Delhi to the Jan Seva Bhavan to discuss and inaugurate essential development projects. Among the schemes approved, ₹144 crore worth of work has already been awarded. The projects include the construction of civic facilities, improved roads, sanitation, and enhanced public amenities. CM Gupta shared lunch with the residents, demonstrating her commitment to the welfare of people living in slums, and assured them that the government is dedicated to improving their quality of life with honesty and efficiency.
The Chief Minister highlighted that previous administrations viewed slum residents merely as a vote bank, often creating fear and neglecting basic services. In contrast, the current government prioritizes dignity, welfare, and better facilities for these communities. Key dignitaries, including Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, and CEO of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board Rupesh Thakur, attended the program.

Focus on Women and Community Development
A notable feature of the program was the participation of several women representatives from slum areas. The approved initiatives focus on civic infrastructure, including community complexes, paved roads in narrow lanes, and sanitation facilities. CM Gupta discussed the concerns and needs of residents and assured them that the government is fully committed to raising living standards in slum areas. She emphasized that while former leaders lived in lavish palaces, the current government prioritizes public welfare and works day and night to serve citizens.
Dedicated Budget for Slum Development
CM Rekha Gupta stressed that the contribution of workers residing in slum areas is vital for Delhi’s development. To ensure equitable growth, the Delhi government has allocated a dedicated budget of ₹700 crore for slum development. This budget will accelerate projects related to basic amenities, housing, healthcare, sanitation, and social welfare.
Planned Development for Inclusive Growth
The Chief Minister stated that the government has prepared a comprehensive plan to improve slum areas, including drainage systems, roads, public toilets, parks, and community centers. The aim is to elevate residents from inhumane living conditions. Projects are being executed rapidly, and several initiatives were inaugurated on the same day. CM Gupta personally participated in the meal with residents and oversaw the project launches, reflecting the government’s hands-on approach.
Special Welfare Initiatives
Additionally, the government has launched dedicated welfare initiatives, including Atal Canteens, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and enhanced healthcare and nutrition programs, which were previously unavailable in these areas. CM Gupta reiterated that Delhi now operates under a “double-engine” government committed to the philosophy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
Through these measures, the Delhi government aims to ensure that development reaches even the most marginalized citizens, empowering them with dignity, infrastructure, and essential services.
