Delhi Government bans consultancy firm for 2 years, fines ₹50.3 lakh for negligence in ICU projects at major hospitals; construction delays impacted healthcare services.
The Delhi Government has imposed a two-year ban and a fine of ₹50.3 lakh on a consultancy firm after its negligence in handling crucial ICU projects at major hospitals came to light. The Public Works Department (PWD) had entrusted the firm with comprehensive consultancy for ICU-related projects at Shalimar Bagh Hospital, Kirari Hospital, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalay, and GTB Hospital.
The consultancy firm was responsible for planning, designing, preparing drawings, cost estimation, obtaining statutory approvals, and supervising construction. However, the firm failed to submit essential drawings, designs, and compliance documents within the stipulated timelines. This delay not only halted construction work but also disrupted the overall project schedule.

According to departmental orders, the consultancy agency repeatedly failed to provide critical documents related to structural design, such as design calculations, Design Basis Reports (DBR), structural models, and load calculations, despite multiple requests.
As a result, the construction agencies could not proceed with the work, causing significant financial implications for the government. Delays in these ICU projects have reportedly led to a loss of several crore rupees. Additionally, the expansion of ICU facilities in the hospitals has been affected, impacting healthcare services for patients in need of critical care.
The Delhi Government’s strict action highlights its commitment to accountability and timely execution of healthcare infrastructure projects, ensuring that public health services are not compromised due to administrative negligence.
