Delhi government launches Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to provide phased financial support of over ₹1 lakh to girls from birth to graduation. Learn eligibility, benefits, and how to apply.
In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering girls from economically weaker families, the Delhi government on Tuesday announced the launch of the ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’. The scheme provides phased financial support to daughters from birth until completion of their graduation or diploma, with the maturity amount exceeding one lakh rupees, including interest. The funds will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account, ensuring transparency and timely delivery.
Expanded Version of Ladli Scheme
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the new initiative as an expanded and restructured version of the 2008 Ladli Scheme, emphasizing that no girl in Delhi should leave her education incomplete due to financial constraints. She highlighted that the scheme represents an investment in the future of Delhi’s girls and, by extension, the nation.
Phased Financial Assistance from Birth to Graduation
Under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, the government will deposit up to ₹56,000 in various phases linked to the girl’s age and educational milestones. These funds will be invested in structured financial instruments, growing over time to reach more than one lakh rupees at maturity. Chief Minister Gupta also stated that many maturity accounts under the previous Ladli scheme remained unclaimed. Over 1.86 lakh accounts have been identified, of which 90 crore rupees have already been disbursed to 30,000 beneficiaries in 2025. The remaining 41,000 girls are set to receive 100 crore rupees shortly.
