Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launched a post-Chhath Puja cleanliness drive at Yamuna Ghat, leading with a broom and urging citizens to take shared responsibility for keeping the environment clean and pollution-free.
After the grand celebration of Chhath Puja, the Delhi government has launched a post-festival cleanliness drive to restore the city’s beauty and hygiene. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally took part in the campaign, emphasizing that maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment is a shared responsibility of both the government and citizens.
On Tuesday, CM Rekha Gupta inaugurated the “Swachhta Abhiyan” (cleanliness drive) at Vasudev Ghat near Kashmere Gate on the banks of the Yamuna River. Leading by example, she picked up a broom and joined sanitation workers and local teams in cleaning the ghat area.
Cleanliness Is a Continuous Effort
Speaking at the event, CM Gupta said, “The Delhi government conducts cleanliness drives across the capital after every major festival to ensure the city remains clean and beautiful. Every celebration feels complete only when our surroundings look equally clean and refreshing. Cleanliness is not a one-day activity but a year-round habit that requires equal participation from the government and the public.”

Environment Is Everyone’s Responsibility
The event was attended by Development Minister Kapil Mishra and senior government officials. CM Gupta highlighted that keeping ghats clean after festivals like Chhath Puja is crucial for environmental preservation. “We have launched similar cleanliness initiatives after Diwali and Valmiki Jayanti, and now after Chhath Puja, to ensure every corner of Delhi stays clean,” she said.
Appeal to Citizens and Volunteers
Rekha Gupta also appealed to officers, volunteers, and residents to actively participate in the campaign. She mentioned that Chhath Puja was celebrated on a large scale across hundreds of colonies, canals, and Yamuna ghats in Delhi. “Post-puja cleaning is being carried out promptly to prevent litter accumulation. Every citizen should contribute to keeping their area clean,” she added.
Towards a Cleaner, Greener Delhi
The Chief Minister reiterated that “cleanliness is not just the government’s responsibility but that of every citizen.” She added, “True transformation happens only when society and administration work together.”
The Delhi government has already launched several initiatives under the slogan “Swachh Delhi, Sundar Delhi” (Clean Delhi, Beautiful Delhi) to promote hygiene and environmental sustainability. CM Rekha Gupta’s latest move marks another strong step towards making the capital cleaner, greener, and pollution-free.
