BJP wins 7 of 12 seats in the Delhi MCD by-election as CM Rekha Gupta hails the victory as a testament to hard work and dedication. AAP wins 3 seats, Congress and AIFB secure one each.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a significant victory in the high-stakes Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-election, winning seven out of twelve seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won three seats, while Congress and All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) won one seat each, marking a mixed outcome in the 12-seat electoral contest.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the people of Delhi for their support and credited the BJP’s workers for their relentless efforts, calling the result a “strong testment to hard work.
“Heartfelt thanks to the citizens of Delhi for bestowing their invaluable blessings upon the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Municipal Corporation by-election. This victory reflects the tireless dedication and collective strength of our hardworking party workers,” CM Gupta stated on X (formerly Twitter).
She also congratulated the victorious BJP candidates and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Delhi’s development, saying, “Our government is committed to the development of and is working non-stop for the welfare of citizens.”

BJP’s Performance in Context
While the BJP won seven seats, it saw a slight reduction compared to the previous election, when it had secured nine of these 12 seats. The AAP increased its tally by winning three seats, and Congress opened its account with one seat. AIFB also made a small presence with a single seat.

About the By-Election
The by-election was held for 12 MCD seats after 11 councillors won Assembly seats and one councillor was elected to Parliament. The wards included Greater Kailash, Shalimar Bagh B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar A, Dakshin Puri, Mundka, Vinod Nagar, and Dwarka B.
