Delhi unauthorized colonies regularization begins, giving 4.5 million residents legal rights and relief in their homes across the city.
In a historic move, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the launch of the Delhi unauthorized colonies regularization process, providing relief to over 4.5 million residents living in illegal colonies. The announcement marks a significant step towards ensuring legal ownership and rights for thousands of families across the city.
During a press conference, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Today is a new chapter of relief, respect, and legal rights for millions of Delhi residents.” She emphasized that long-neglected issues in unauthorized colonies will now be resolved, giving families a secure future in their own homes.
Key Details of the Regularization Process
CM Gupta highlighted that out of 1,731 unauthorized colonies, 1,511 have been approved for Delhi unauthorized colonies regularization under the PM Uday scheme. The application process will begin on April 24, with a clear timeline for completion:
GIS survey within 7 days
Rectification of application issues within 15 days
Conveyance deed issuance within 45 days
This structured approach ensures that residents can claim their rights without delays.

Relief for Small Businesses
CM Rekha Gupta noted that the central and Delhi governments have removed 22 major hurdles in the process. In addition, small shops up to 20 square meters will also be regularized under specific conditions, providing much-needed relief for small business owners.
TOD Policy for Sustainable Urban Growth
To ensure long-term urban planning, CM Gupta also announced the expansion of the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy. Around 207 square kilometers along Metro and RRTS corridors within a 500-meter radius will see planned, high-density, and mixed-use development. This initiative aims to improve affordable housing, connectivity, and overall quality of life, especially benefiting low- and middle-income families.

The CM expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, stating that the Delhi unauthorized colonies regularization initiative reflects their vision of inclusive development and social justice.
