Amritsar: Punjab Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh participated in the ongoing Teacher Capacity Development Program being conducted in Amritsar under the “War Against Drugs” campaign. The initiative aims to strengthen teachers’ ability to identify and address student-related mental health and substance abuse issues.
The Teacher Capacity Development Program is training more than 3,200 high and senior secondary school teachers to better understand students’ emotional and psychological needs.
Teacher Capacity Development Program Trains Over 3200 Teachers
Under the Teacher Capacity Development Program, large-scale training sessions are being organized for school teachers across the district.

The focus of the program is on mental health awareness, early identification of behavioural issues, and creating preventive strategies against drug abuse among students.
Strengthens Student Support System
The Teacher Capacity Development Program aims to equip teachers with the skills to recognize emotional distress in students and provide initial guidance and support.

Officials said the program is designed to create a safe, healthy, and drug-free school environment through early intervention and awareness.

Speaking during the initiative, Balbir Singh said the Teacher Capacity Development Program plays a key role in the government’s “War Against Drugs” campaign.
He emphasized that teachers act as the first point of contact for students and can significantly contribute to preventing drug addiction and supporting mental well-being.

The Teacher Capacity Development Program is part of the Punjab government’s broader mission to protect youth from substance abuse and strengthen mental health awareness in schools.
