The ₹647 crore Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project, to be inaugurated by CM Bhajanlal Sharma, will ensure year-round water supply, strengthen the Gang Canal system, and boost irrigation for 3.14 lakh hectares, benefiting thousands of farmers.
In a major infrastructural boost for Rajasthan’s irrigation network, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is set to lay the foundation stone of the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project on December 5 during his visit to Sri Ganganagar. Valued at ₹647.62 crore, the project aims to ensure uninterrupted water supply throughout the year, significantly benefiting farmers dependent on the Gang Canal for irrigation.
The Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project is being jointly funded by Rajasthan and Punjab, with Punjab contributing ₹379.12 crore and Rajasthan allocating ₹268.50 crore. Earlier, CM Bhajanlal Sharma had announced ₹200 crore for the project in the 2024–25 state budget. Following this, the Central Water Commission approved the detailed project report (DPR), paving the way for the reconstruction work.
A Century Later, History Repeats Itself
The foundation stone for the Gang Canal was originally laid on December 5, 1925, by Maharaja Ganga Singh. Now, exactly 100 years later, the launch of the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project marks another historic milestone. The project is expected to strengthen the canal system, increase water intake capacity, and directly benefit lakhs of cultivators in the region.

Massive Infrastructure Upgrades Planned
Under the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project, several major tasks will be undertaken:
-
CC lining from RD 0 to 168.230
-
Reconstruction of two head regulators
-
Construction of a new head regulator
-
Reconstruction of one cross regulator
-
Rebuilding of 19 VRBs and DRBs

Once completed, the system will allow additional water from the Harike Barrage to flow smoothly to the Gang Canal. This enhanced water availability will improve irrigation conditions across 3.14 lakh hectares and significantly boost agricultural productivity.
Direct Benefits for Farmers
Officials say the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project will greatly enhance the efficiency of the canal network, ensuring reliable water supply during both Rabi and Kharif seasons. With strengthened infrastructure and year-round water availability, farmers will experience improved crop security and higher yields.
The Rajasthan government believes that the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project will not only revive the century-old canal system but also uplift the regional agrarian economy by providing long-term benefits to cultivators.
