Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to the United Kingdom and Austria from April 8 to 13, 2025. During the visit, she is also slated to participate in ministerial-level bilateral meetings in both nations.
During her official visit, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will take part in the 13th Ministerial Round of the India–UK Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD), as well as hold engagements with think tanks, investors, and business leaders in both the United Kingdom and Austria.
The 13th India-UK EFD is scheduled for April 9, 2025, in London and will be jointly chaired by Smt. Sitharaman and the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer. This high-level bilateral platform facilitates in-depth discussions across multiple levels — ministerial, bureaucratic, working group, and regulatory — on areas such as financial services, investments, regulations, UPI linkages, taxation, and curbing illicit financial flows.
India’s key focus areas for this round include collaboration in IFSC GIFT City, investment in insurance and pensions, fintech, the digital economy, and mobilizing sustainable and affordable climate finance.
Finance Minister Nirmala and the UK Chancellor are expected to unveil various joint reports and announce new initiatives to enhance bilateral cooperation. Alongside the EFD, Smt. Sitharaman will also engage in bilateral meetings, participate in investor roundtables, and hold discussions with top executives from major financial institutions.
In the UK, she will deliver the keynote address at the India-UK Investor Roundtable, attended by CEOs and senior representatives from across the UK’s financial sector, including pension funds, insurance firms, and banks. The Roundtable will be co-hosted with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Rt. Hon. Jonathan Reynolds, in partnership with the City of London.
In Austria, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold meetings with senior government officials including Austrian Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer and Federal Chancellor H.E. Mr. Christian Stocker. She will also co-chair a session with Austria’s Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism, Mr. Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, to present investment opportunities in India to leading Austrian CEOs and promote stronger economic ties between the two nations.
